The government has given a nod to establishment of 14 new Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) across the country.

A proposal for establishment of 20 new IIITs on a not-for-profit public-private partnership was made. The central government, as for now has given an approval for establishment of 14 IIITs. This was informed by Shashi Tharoor, minister of human resource development, in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
According to the scheme, 50 to 100 crore of land will be provided free of cost by the concerned state government for setting up the IIITs.

Besides the establishment of new IIITs, the already existing IIIT at Allahabad is all set to hold the ninth convocation on March 10. Initially, the function was supposed to be conducted in September last year, but due to some administrative disputes, it got postponed and now will be held on March 10.
The 14 new IIITs will be established in the following states:
Andhra Pradesh
Assam
Gujarat
Haryana
Himachal Pradesh
Karnataka
Kerala
Madhya Pradesh
Rajasthan
Tamil Nadu
Maharashtra
Uttar Pradesh
West Bengal
Tripura.
