CBSE has proposed that JEE (Mains) should be held twice a year so that students who do not do well in the first attempt will not lose a year.
The decision on whether to hold JEE (Mains) once or twice a year will be made on September 17.
JEE is the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad as well as other engineering institutes.
The engineering entrance exam is divided into JEE (Mains) and JEE (Advanced). The top 1.5 lakh candidates who pass JEE (Mains) will be allowed to take the Advanced exam.
According to the Ministry of HRD, JEE (Mains) will be conducted once in November or December and once more in April and May.
The better score will be taken for JEE (Advanced).
The IIT Council is yet to confirm whether students will have to be in the top 20 percentile of their Class 12 board exams.
There have been reports that the Ministry of HRD will allow students to retake their Class 12 board exams.
There are, however, concerns that holding the JEE (Mains) in February may affect a student’s performance in their Class 12 board exams.
Students who pass their JEE (Mains) can get admission into IIITs and NITs. Students who want to get into IITs will have to pass JEE (Advanced).
